Still, I was able to glean invaluable information and recommendations from Orman on basic personal finance dilemmas that are new to me. She's entertaining to read and you can read the book very easily (read it on a roundtrip flight between Boston and Philly).
This is a basic introduction to personal finance for the young adult- perfect for recent grads on their own for the first time.

Let's talk about your book. Do you have an idea, write what you want? Begin to see with the user of the market, which is already out there on the subject. If you find that the market is to sell books in this genre and others will be flooded in the proverbial haystack needled, you may want to write select another topic. If you go forward with your ideas to decide, you will be this market comparisons in your book proposal need later, so grab the ISBN, price, bindingType, year and site, and a brief summary of the book. Save this information in a word processor file.

The next step is to start your book proposal. Yes, even before you write your book. It will give you a clear idea of how you want to organize your thoughts and what you want in the book cover. Do not stop to edit or even end a sentence when you are pursued simultaneously or lose an in-depth thinking means. I prefer to write the kind, rather than the long hand because my mind moves faster than I can manipulate a pen. I can type pretty fast, so that is my preferred method. Otherswear the long hand is better. You decide.

Next it is time to start thinking about how to publish your book. When I wrote my first book I knew very little about writing the industry-and even less about the publication. My experience with self-publishing was a great learning opportunity and I gained knowledge that I share with others. My second book was published by Booksurge POD-a company that I would not recommend someone with. The print quality is poor, receive customer service islike pulling teeth, and each revision of the manuscript cost $ 50. It took a friend of mine almost a year to get a printable version of their manuscript in book form and available on Amazon.com. We have found two that had always seemed a vanity book in a brick and mortar bookstore almost impossible. Needless to say, we learned a lot from our experiences.

In time I began my third manuscript I had met Valerie Connelly. Valerie is the president of Nightengale Press atindependent publisher that uses the best methods both commercial press and POD technology. I signed a contract with Nightengale before I ever wrote the first word of my manuscript. By Nightengale, a writer of the book is the U.S. available to in all major bookstores, as amended by Ingram.

There are a lot of technical details about writing a non-fiction book, especially if a lot of research is required. I'm referring to the footnotes, citing references and formatting the bibliography.Here there is more discussion than I can possibly cover in one article. Vanity or "Subsidy" book publishing is popularly known as Vanity Press. This type of book publishing is different from conventional publishing.

Vanity press requires the author to finance a part or all of the total publishing cost. This includes the marketing expenses for the promotion of the book. On the other hand, the conventional book publishing still follow the usual protocol. First, it accepts the manuscript then reviews it. If the material has commercial potential, the publisher will pay for the publication and endorsement of the book. In vanity press, the publisher has little risk because it has either a small or no investment in the publication of the book. That is why it accepts as many manuscripts as it wishes.

Amateur writers are attracted to this kind of publishing, because they are given all the opportunities that conventional publishers cannot provide. Vanity publishing usually acknowledges unsolicited manuscripts. Meaning, an author need not seek representation from literary agents.

Phantom: Chainfire Trilogy, Part 2 (Sword of Truth, Book 10)

I like science fiction and fantasy, and I'd never read anything by Terry Goodkind until this month. How's that for a confession? I think his books must have started coming out when I was avoiding series (due to kids, lack of finances... who knows). But Phantom sounded really intriguing, with a female protagonist who can't remember who she is, and a husband who's the only person left who knows she exists. Throw in a little magic and global annihilation and I'm bound to be hooked. I decided, with a series this long, it had to be possible to pick the story up halfway through so of course I bought the book.

Terry Goodkind has certainly created a fascinating world, and I learned a lot about it as I read--its history, its mythology, the way its magic works. I particularly loved a scene where the protagonist looks at a magic spell and tries to explain how symbolically there must be something wrong. I guess because I'm a mathematician, and mathematicians work with symbols, the concept intrigued me. It felt like when I've tried to explain that a proof is false without being able straight away to put my finger on the reason.

The author fills in gaps in the backstory quite cleverly, bringing this new reader at least partly up to date. But I found the adventure much slower than I expected, with lots of paragraphs devoted to explaining and re-explaining the same feelings--thoughts that go round in circles repeated on the page. It was a fun story, and if the next really is the concluding tale in the series I will probably plan on reading it. But it was a surprisingly heavy read, so I may not go back to catch up on the earlier books.

I like reading novelizations of movies and, since this movie will not have anything for older readers (graphic novel anyone?) it was nice to see such a good version written for young people. I like that the author chose to stick with telling the story from Hiccup's first person perspective, which is how it should be told. He brought a lot of emotions and insights in for scenes not shown in the movie and also showed was going on through Hiccup's mind, as a smart teenager might feel. His description of finally realizing how beautiful Night Furies are when he confronts Toothless as a friend for the first time is really touching. You also get a lot of nice descriptions on how Hiccup and Toothless became a good team and, even more so, really good friends who were so in tune with each other that they could understand each other without words. The author has a style similar to "The Hunger Games" books in that Hiccup describes everything as it happens to him. The author also did not shy away from the realism in the story, which I think is good for this age group- both Hiccup and Toothless face a lot of risk in their endeavors, picking up bruises and scrapes and minor burns, but they also learn from it and improve on it with Hiccup creating new inventions to make them a better team. The climax is wonderfully and honestly told, too, about how the Viking youth and his wild dragon show what you can accomplish from teamwork when two different beings work together... but also the respect we owe people who put their lives in danger to save other lives.

A book is an alcove of treasure, and you just need to dive in and get the pearls. But, the choice to make of which book to select is important. As we all know, reading is a great hobby, and also contributive towards our personal growth. But today, with the onslaught of thousands of authors and millions of books, it is quite perplexing at times to know which book to read.

In our lives, we come across people, maybe neighbors, colleagues and friends or relatives, who are avid readers. Some may even be writers. It is a good idea to discuss and inquire, what kind of books are good, or who are the authors that are famous, which are best selling books, and so on. It is important to know what type of books you personally prefer to read, for example, mystery or romance. Based on your preferences, you could get the right kind of information, from a circle of people and friends.

Personally, I am a member of a library, where there are hundreds of good books available. But even that sometimes puts us in a crux as to which book is good to read. At such time, the librarian is a great help, as they are trained to know books well and in detail. Based on what type of book I want to read, they can be helpful in directing me to the section where that book can be found.

It is important to read the back of the book where the concise story is given. I recommend that if you have a library in your vicinity or office, become a member. If that is not possible, then log onto the Internet and surf some web sites. You may come across some valuable information that might help you. If you are looking for best selling authors and their names, look at the entire list they have to offer, and maybe you can choose one from that list.

In certain towns and cities, you will find a couple of private book clubs, started by people who share a common interest, READING! It is beneficial to be a part of it, as you could actually end up saving some money. Every month they buy a book, pass it around, and then once a month, have a little informal tea party and discuss the book. This is a very social and informative gathering. So, you don't end up buying bad books. Besides, collecting books at home can cause a big space problem.

Great book, my toddler loves it. And there are no mistakes.

For clarification: the color orange is "naranja" in Spanish from Spain. We call the fruit and the color the same in Spain (just as they do in English!). I know in Latin American countries they say "anaranjado". But that does not make "naranja" a mistake in the book. It is correct Spanish, found in the dictionary.It was just probably translated by a Spaniard.

I was shocked by the review by a teacher saying that she tells her students that the word "naranja" is wrong. I would never tell my toddler that "anaranjado" is incorrect, even though we don't say it that way! It's just a proof of the diversity of the Spanish language. Shame on this teacher who says she uses "naranja" as an example of bad translation - and complains of seeing the mistake frequently. No wonder, since it is not a mistake. She should instead explain how different Spanish-speaking countries use different words, and all are correct.

The Autism Book: What Every Parent Needs to Know About Early Detection, Treatment, Recovery, and Prevention (Sears Parenting Library)

This is an excellent book! It is very well organized and easy to read, providing a clear set of steps for parents and physicians to take when treating a child with autism. Dr. Bob Sears includes a fabulous overview of what is currently known in the world of mainstream medical science regarding possible causes and treatments for autism, with numerous detailed citations and an excellent reference at the back of the book. He then goes on to describe what is known in the biomedical world (again with full citations and references), and provides very convincing evidence that there are many non-drug treatments that can be highly effective in reducing the symptoms of autism, sometimes to the extent that a patient would no longer qualify for a diagnosis of autism at all. I find this book to be incredibly convincing due to the extent to which all of the information presented is carefully documented and organized, but also because of my own personal experience with researching autism over the past few months.

I am a PhD Statistician, and I have a 14 month old son who was showing many of the early warning signs for autism until a few weeks ago when we accidentally discovered that he has an allergy to dairy. We had initiated early intervention services for him and the simple methods that they suggested to increase interactions and gain more eye contact during the day were just fabulous. But it turns out dairy products were having a severe impact on his desire to make eye contact and interact with us, and the improvement was obvious within days of removing all dairy from his diet. Taking him off of dairy also cured the chronic constipation that he had been experiencing since he was just a few weeks old, and he suddenly began to sleep for hours in a stretch for the first time in his life. Within just three weeks he was sharing objects with us for the first time, beginning to respond to his name, beginning to imitate sounds, using some simple words, following our gaze and looking when we would point, and finally he was pointing to share his own interest. Re-challenging with dairy (1/4 cup yogurt daily for three days) caused the constipation to return, his sleep patterns to fall apart again, and he began making less and less eye-contact and was no longer interested in playing interactive games. The dairy challenge also caused him to lose the eight words that he had learned during the three week non-dairy period, which he then slowly re-learned one-by-one over the following three weeks (in fact each of his words sounds a little different now than they did the first time he learned them).

What really strikes me is that in my hours and hours of research into what was known in the medical community about the causes and treatments of autism, I never once came across what appeared to be a reliable source instructing me to try taking my son off of dairy. So when I accidentally discovered the link between my son's dairy allergy and autistic behaviors I wondered if this connection had been documented in other children. Once I began to search online (I like PubMed.org) for the words "dairy and autism", I suddenly discovered a whole new world of information that I had somehow missed in all of my earlier research. It turns out that this connection is VERY well known in the biomedical community, and there are currently many studies in the works to examine the link between the popular Gluten-Free Casein-Free (GFCF) diet in the treatment of autism (casein is a protein in milk).

When I found out that Dr. Bob Sears (son of Dr. William Sears) was going to be publishing "The Autism Book" this month, I pre-ordered it on Amazon and waited anxiously to see what kinds of things he might have to say about the issue. Lo and behold, eliminating dairy is one of the very first steps that he recommends (after initiating intensive early intervention therapies, of course). I was impressed, and I am anxious to try some of the simple guidelines that he recommends, such as using a multivitamin and supplementing with cod liver oil and probiotics. I also plan to investigate intestinal yeast as a possible issue for my own son based on Dr. Sears' suggestions, since he has had problems with yeast in the past.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a child showing symptoms of autism who would like to learn more about possible treatments, and I also hope that many practicing physicians will take a look at the research presented here and perhaps implement some of the safe and potentially highly effective treatments with their own patients.

Edited version of Touching the Void. In the mid-80's two young climbers attempted to reach the summit of Siula Grande in Peru; a feat that had previously been attempted but never achieved. With an extra man looking after base camp, Simon and Joe set off to scale the mount in one long push over several days. The peak is reached, however on the descent Joe falls and breaks his leg. Despite what it means, the two continue with Simon letting Joe out on a rope for 300 meters, then descending to join him and so on. However when Joe goes out over an overhang with no way of climbing back up, Simon makes the decision to cut the rope. Joe falls into a crevice and Simon, assuming him dead, continues back down. Joe however survives the fall and was lucky to hit a ledge in the crevice. This is the story of how he got back down. Book by Book: Notes on Reading and Life Review

This is not a "Dummy's Guide to Becoming Erudite." "Book by Book" is a goulash of recommendations, opinions, quotations and other gems of literary, visual and musical arts Dirda has compiled or written. From the outset of this easy-reading book, it's clear Dirda invested a lot of time and thought in preparing this broad compendium of his favorites. Organized into thematic chapters with quotations, lists, mini-essays and thumb-nails on various topics, it's "news you can use" if you're looking for guidance in the culture wilderness and a comforting nod if you just want validation of your own tastes. Dirda's read enough and knows enough about that which he speaks to be trustworthy when it comes to recommendations. (Any friend of John Crowley's "Little, Big" is a friend of mine.) Even the most well-read person I think will find new ideas and fresh takes on some familiar authors. There's also some good advice to parents of younger readers.

In some respects, Dirda owes a lot to two other "reading gurus" -- Mortimer Adler, one of the supreme intellectual giants of the 20th century, and Clifton Fadiman, himself a disciple of Adler, whose encyclopedic knowledge of works of literature, philosophy, history and science is astonishing. Adler's "How to Read a Book" (with Charles van Doren) (no mean undertaking in itself) and Fadiman's more accessible "The Lifetime Reading Plan (3rd Ed.)" are both absolutely indispensable to anyone, young or old, who desires to become truly and broadly educated by reading "the Great Works". Dirda's approach is much more informal and, as I say, is broader than the topic of reading.

The difficulty with pleasing everyone with a book like Dirda's is that it's like showing your diary, a wedding or family album to strangers: they can appreciate it up to a certain point -- but it's just too private and self-referential. I kept being reminded of writers, books, musicians, etc., who - to me - were conspicuous by their absence. Heavy hitters like Jacques Barzun, William James, Thomas Pynchon, Ralph Ellison, Henry Miller, Leroi Jones/Amiri Baraka, John Coltrane, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, The 13th Floor Elevators, R. Crumb, Classics Illustrated, Edward Hopper, Paul Klee, Andre Kertesz -- in other words MY favorites.

Still, I enjoyed and would recommend this book: Dirda reminded me of the intense and deep delight that's possible from reading a good book, viewing a painting, hearing music, how such experiences shape our personalities over a lifetime. "See Spot run." Fall 1956, Harding School, Erie, PA, Mrs. Daily's first grade. Like the man says: "book by book." You gotta start somewhere.

I have been involved in the story of the first to the last paragraph. I appreciated Terrell amazing attention to detail and her strong character development. Their writing is tight and intense.

"Exit 22" is Terrell Clock at their best. I am looking forward to the next ChristopherSandy voltage adventure.

In Book One of "Selling Retail" of the author, super successful businessman, John Lawhon, gave the reader valuable information on how to prepare for the sale. In this book he is working on the successful implementation of the process.

This book is divided into two sections. The first section deals with the sales in the retail setting itself, and in the second part he gives tips and techniques with which the Sales Professionalcan complete his education.

It begins with a discussion of the presentation The presentation itself will be presented to the customer with benefits outweigh the costs associated with the acquisition of benefits. Mr. Lawhon uses the following chart to illustrate his view of the process:

* Customers buy emotionally and then attempt to justify that decision with logic after the sale.

* The presenting features for the customers to promote the buyer shouldDecision.

* The more features and benefits is shown to the customer, the more emotions are generated.

* The more features for the customer, the more data has shown to support the buyer the purchase decision.

It is therefore important that as many features and benefits in the presentation as possible, and that includes properties that may not be visible, and services the customer can not without thoughts of "inside" knowledge of the sales professional.

TheAuthor emphasizes, then, the importance of involving customers in the process and presentation on the mere listening to the statements of the seller or watching the demonstration. A person who actually dealt with the tool that sits in the chair or tunes the device rather than someone who hears sales booming sales pitch from the ten millionth time, he also recommends keeping on and with all external objects or information, such as ads or moviesthe product appeared.

He then shows how the art of questioning, the customer can virtually "sell" a product to lead themselves. The survey can also be used to clarify the actual needs of the customer in mind both the seller and the customer.

The author goes on techniques that are used to refute objections to illustrate. He begins by pointing out that while some objections to simply go through steps "towards the sale,some "objections" really define the existence of a real obstacles to the sale. An example would be the case from someone who had simply not enough money to buy the article. On the other hand, some of these "obstacles" can be real, but the seller can resolve the possibility that the problem of the customer. In this case, an example might be that someone who has shown a piece of furniture with their existing color scheme clashes. An important issue in the contextObjection that an appeal is no longer guaranteed a real contradiction, but rather an indication that the customer has missed some time earlier in the presentation. In this case it may be necessary to go through the presentation again.

After a general discussion of the objections, the author goes a little deeper into the debate about what the objection really means and how dull the sharp edges of an objection and what objections were not against money or knowledge ... realor adopted.

In the discussion about the actual writing, one of the most important points the author is that many sales are lost simply because the seller was not just willing, at the moment of truth, lack of a calculator, write the appropriate forms, or even a pen with. He also advises against attempting to the fact that an order goes to hide, by avoiding developed in which the procedure or other tactics to camouflage that is an exchange of cash for the product on writtenwould come.

"Jake Ransom and the Skull King's Shadow" by James Rollins was a terrific fantasy book. This book is fantasy because it involves fantasy creatures, such as grackyls and sting tails. It takes place in two different worlds, the real world and an ancient world filled with long lost tribes. The second world has not a trace of modern technology. Jake and Kady Ransom, brother and sister, are the main characters. Jake is brave and curious while Kady is the opposite, self-centered and ignorant.

The adventure all started when Jake and Kady received tickets in the mail to their missing parents' exhibition at the British Museum. Their parents were famous archeologists who disappeared while on an excavation. When they got to the museum, the two got some time to look around before anyone else entered the exhibit. Almost immediately, Jake noticed something. In the golden pyramid his parents had discovered, there was a hole. Jake's fingers went to his neck had he grasped the half of a Mayan coin hanging there. He called Kady over to get the two halves together and put the coin in the hole inside the pyramid. Suddenly, everything went black and they appeared in a jungle filled with prehistoric creatures. Seconds later, two kids ran by and saved Jake and Kady from a t-rex and brought them to a city protected from the animals and filled with long lost tribes. Jake and Kady quickly realize there is a problem in this ancient world. The Skull King is an evil person trying to take over the city. Can Jake and Kady help save the city and find out what happened to their parents?

I highly recommend "Jake Ransom and the Skull King's Shadow" by James Rollins because it was enthralling and left me hanging for the next book in the series. I was left wondering if Jake and Kady would go back to the prehistoric world and try to find out what really happened to their parents. I recommend this book to kids ages 9-12 that like adventure stories. Personally, I plan to go out and get the second book in the series to see what happens.

Call me a simpleton, but I thoroughly enjoyed the novel without any knowledge of its biblical allusions, or others that may exist. I was actually enthralled with the plot in itself the entire way through. As far as the diction and syntax are concerned, I did find that certain sections were a bit confusing, and I also found that the quality of the writing fluctuated at times. However, when it is taken into account that the text is written by Severian, such inconsistencies, while still frustrating, end up adding to the overall mystique of the text. Just for arguments sake, even if the blame were placed on Gene Wolfe himself, I found that the well written sections captivated me like no other text has. At times, I found myself experiencing something similar to a dream like state, where that ineffable combination of awe and confusion took hold of me. Typically, when I finish a novel, I put it down for good. Yet, as soon as I finished Book of the New Sun, I felt the urge to re-read it. Not because I want to understand its complex literary allusions or because I desire to expand my vocabulary, but because, quite simply, it moved me.

I was especially interested in this book due to its topic - censorship of literature. Writers everywhere are suffering due to their desire to write. To tell a story. Whether it's banning, imprisonment or death, many dedicated writers are paying for their talent. (The most notable here in the States would be the controversy surrounding Salman Rushdie's Satanic Verses, where a fatwa was issued, telling all Muslims to murder Rushdie for his written blasphemy against their religion). On May 12th, HarperStudio, in conjunction with PEN American Center, the major voice for literature and free expression, is releasing Burn This Book (as well as a nationwide petition) as a way to bring awareness to how much these writers endure.

Burn This Book features 11 essays written by incredibly prominent writers from all over the world. It starts with the speech Morrison gave at the PEN International Festival dinner, entitled "Peril." She sets the mood of the book, voicing her opinion that writers should never be silenced, instead they should be listened to, for they bring art and awareness to the world. As the book unfolds, essay after essay dictates the same idea, only in many different ways.

Both John Updike and Nadine Gordimer have strong, verbose essays ("Why Write" and "Witness: The Inward Testimony" respectively) that bookend the anthology. Showing how authors can have a political awareness and voice in the world, the authors successfully dictate the importance of literature. These are the essays that literature students will study in college and dissect carefully, thoughtfully. Although those two are arguably the the most notorious writers in the collection, their essays were far from my favorites. I really enjoyed Pico Iyer's "The Man, The Men at the Station," the story of his stay in Mandalay when he met a trishaw driver by the name of Maung-Maung who wrote a book, but could never publish it because it was frowned upon to be thought smart there. "Freedom to Write" by Orhan Pamuk was an incredibly interesting look at Pamuk's meeting with Arthur Miller and Harold Pinter, two renowned authors, in the 80's. As the latter two fought for the rights of writers in Turkey, Pamuk discovered the political persona in himself, one that he always kept out of his books, perhaps in fear of being imprisoned like the others. I especially loved "The Sudden Sharp Memory" by Ed Park which was written just like the famously banned novel "I Am The Cheese" by Robert Cormier. The essay, written like an interview, discusses why Cormier's book was banned and how it changed him, as an author and a person. I loved how he put himself into the story and wrote it similarly to the book it's praising.

Rushdie himself had an essay in there entitled "Notes on Writing and the Nation," which addresses just what it states. Using a poem by R.S. Thomas as the backbone, he discusses the practicality of writing. Although his essay was incredibly interested, part of me hoped he would have approaches his very real previous situation. Paul Auster's "Talking to Strangers" is an essay every writer should read. It addresses the question "why write?" and beautifully answers it by bluntly stating "it's the only job I ever wanted."

All in all, Morrison created an excellent collection that showed how writing is more than just words on a page. That it could make a difference. That it could speak to people, reveal answers to a country. A writer's words should never be silenced - they should be the soundtrack to our time.

Burn This Book should be given to any professional writer. As a former teacher, I feel very strongly against book banning and this book let me see that it's more than just that. It opened my eyes to the struggles we face. It made me realize that there has to be an end to it. But, most of all, it made me want to write.

Anyone who has seen late into the night, probably an infomercial promoting one of the latest "Kevin Trudeau's cures" books - weight loss cure and natural remedies. I saw the infomercial for his latest, Debt Cures, and wanted to see what it was. This article will highlight my experience with ordering Debt Cure $.

Love him or hate him, Kevin Trudeau pushes buttons of the people and brings them to speak. Enter the title of one of his books, and you will see many complaints about tooPractices and then you'll also see some people praise his books.

So I was skeptical about this new book and wanted to offer a review.

I do not like ordering over the phone, because the people on the other line trying to sell things, you buy a product linked because their job, but if I ordered online Debt Cures, I may have to imagine how bad it was for the people who informed on Call

The book sells for $ 29.95 and $ 11.95 shipping and handling costs.Why so much for postage and packing? Amazon can give you shipping for orders over $ 25, so why is this book so much shipping?

Debtcures.com on the website, it says due to higher costs, higher fuel costs and inflation that they are in higher shipping costs.

Alright good. So, after I order the book, I expect upsold a few other things. And I was not disappointed. Tried on the website, Kevin Trudeau sell me 5 additionalProducts that you would have purchased if more than $ 200 add to your order. For me that does not sound like a way to get out of debt. Not out to a good start.

Two weeks later, the book in a small box, as in one of the fields is available from Amazon when you order a few books.

The infomercial states that you learn things that have never been revealed anywhere else on the credit and lending industry. Even after reading the first 2 chapters I would not agree.Most of the stuff he wrote about is available free online.

One of the main points of the first two chapters that banks, credit card companies and the federal government are all kept under a blanket and try to you and me in debt, so we can what they think rich. This part is true. The credit card companies love it when you just the minimum payments on your bills. You do not want that you get out of debt. They especially like it when you miss your payment or go over the borderso they can assess a hefty fee and to also assess your interest.

This is all true and can be read on many loans on websites.

He talks about the practices of banks and credit card companies and the government as they can so the fee system, with high interest rates and fees because the money they contribute to their campaigns. Reading these chapters, you get mad if you do not already know how much debt you have and how the lenders try and press for more moneyThem.

Chapter 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. are where Kevin Trudeau deliver on its promises to begin debt cures. He offers actionable points as you eliminate your debts, you negotiate from your debts and reduce your interest rates. In "American Judaism: A History, Brandeis University, is well known historian Jonathan D. Sarna, gives an account of 350 years history of American Jewry in a straight and readable form submitted. With an optimistic view on the history and the future of Judaism in America, Sarna describes the developments in American Jewish faith in God, their religious practices, religious traditions and organizations, and concepts such as the marriage was and is a serious threat to the survival of the Jewish faith in America, with vivid detail. The book has received many awards, among them was awarded the 2004 National Jewish Book Award.

This book is about the history of the Jewish religion in America, it's not about the history of Jews in the Americas. Even if the lives and actions of Jews in America are in certain parts of the discussed> Book but they all serve the goal of telling the story of the Jewish faith in America.

Jonathan Sarna is a professor of American Jewish History at Brandeis University and chairman of the Academic Board of the Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives. He is the author of more than twenty books on American Jewish history and life of his forthcoming book entitled "Illustrated American Judaism," published in October 2008. He is also the ChiefHistorian of the National Museum of American Jewish History and the 350th Memory of Jewish life in America.

In 1654 occurred when there were more than 20 Jews to New Amsterdam (now New York) The first group of Jewish immigration to North America has, and what ensued was a great migration of Jews to America to Jews is the second largest religious community in the U.S. Christians. Also there have been times in American history of religious practice had been rejected by the Jews and also a relatively large number of Jews and people of other faiths from mixed marriages. Atevery time people with a pessimistic view would see this as the end of Judaism in America, but after each period, there was a revival of faith among the Jews, and even if these violations appears in the history of Judaism in the United States are They usually accompanied by periods of "Awakening". For this reason, Sarna this whole process as a regenerative cycle that is not destructive. Sarna's is an optimistic and positive view on the history of Judaism in America and theobviously through the entire book.

Sarna does not see the times of religious decline and mixing with other religious groups, like the first steps of assimilation, and finally as a means of extermination of the Jews in the United States. Sarna, however, not to specify why the Jews receive such circumstances, when other faiths entirely disappeared from the United States. Sarna himself says: "Between 1890 and 1906, fully 13.8 percent of the groups in the U.S. census listedReligious institutions went out of existence from 1912 and 1926 the rate jumped to 15.3 percent "do not explain it but in the book why these religions, Judaism survived and disappeared, although many of the reformed religion and reinvented itself, and also what were the different characteristics of Judaism, which has helped it survive in 350 years of American history. Another criticism that can be made of Sarna, that he did not explain the influence of Zionism in the Jewish faithin America, with depth and detail. Sarna himself points out on page 203 of the book: "Proven for years no problem in Jewish life as a difference of Zionism," but there are only a few pages on this subject in the book Sarna. Assign a chapter of the book discuss this critical issue would have made the book a complete history of Judaism in America.

Compared to other books on the subject such as "American Judaism" by Nathan Glazer and "Judaism in America" by Marc Lee Raphael, Sarna book is more on the history of Judaism in America instead of concentrating on the true story of Jews in America and in this respect is the title. This is one of the advantages of the book works in general, and Sarna, Sarna focuses on the issue without unnecessary deviation on other topics or issues that are very tempting for many writers. Some writers, such as Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz, in his> Book "The Vanishing American Jew" strongly disagree with Sarna positive attitude towards the development and survival of Judaism in America and believe that unless that Judaism seriously, it revitalizes gradual disappearance in America is doomed.

In conclusion, "American Judaism: A History" by Jonathan D. Sarna is a valuable and relatively balanced work on the development of 350 years of Jewish faith in America. The book describes what American Jews have believed, asGod, their religious customs, traditions, religious customs, religious organizations, synagogues, and finally, reform movements in the Jewish faith with great detail. Back to the top authors, book promotion is the key to success. Whether an author himself out or published by a major house, most often that author needs to market their book if they want to be any chance of it being successful. Large publishers are also promoting the next blockbuster, even on mid-list focus on that title, and smaller publishers usually do not have the resources to commit to market their titles. Worse offare those to self-publish, because they will receive their books, they on their own. Any kind of marketing that happens happens because their efforts and their efforts alone.

What is a new author to do? He can sit back and hope that his book in some way, or he can put money into a marketing plan and hope to put this plan successfully. The book is comprehensive, alphabetically, Silverman covers topics such as the importance of good reviews, what to do (or not) with autograph sessions, as the brand itself, such as linking with a holiday or films, such talks can help a career in bloom and how to send press kits. There are two major sections on the use of Internet technology (web sites, ezines, e-groups, etc.) andTo develop a newsletter to. From my perspective, these two sections of the informative sections of the book.

Silverman has a timely, comprehensive and very useful book, return the new and experienced authors to time and again how to build a career in writing produced.

Oprah is a horse of another color. You will usually also interviews authors, but her book club a bit further, she is an avid reader and this is why she finds the authors of the books she loves, which is of course completely understandable. It provides the book and the first plates then a book discussion about the book. If you find, like me, that Oprah'sRecommendations reflect the types of work that follow read like, or what you once read and agree is a must-read, then it only makes sense, their recommendations for the future. She was dead on about titles as Wally Lamb's She's Come Undone, Kaye Ellen Foster Gibson's, and of course, all (or nearly all) of the work Toni Morrison's-books you must read, as Morrison is one of the most prolific writers of our century.

INTERNET BOOK CLUB RECOMMENDATIONS

Why Internet Publishing is Good (For Everyone)

If there is one thing that I love, it's the way that the people fighting it, an answer to a question, when is the real answer to their problem that they do not really asking the right question of the first find lines you get excited.

Here is an example.

"Please help me. I've just written a book. What is best - trying to find a publisher of the" traditional "way, or trying to find it published on the Internet?"

Good question, one might say.
Why do I get thisso smug? Why can not I say that it is the wrong question?
Since you do not need to "try to get the" published on the internet! Anyone can do it at any time (as long as you choose the right company).

This may not be easy, of course. There are a lot of people out there advertising on the web, and many of the ads you see to attract you get interested, then you say that you need to help them publish hundreds of dollars for them, the book for you.
This is not "the Internet --publishing '.
It is a form of publication, such as for hundreds of years. It's called "vanity publishing". The reason it is stated that the fact is that we assume that it is in vain "to want to make your book in print, especially if you've already turned the traditional publishing is shown below. The argument is that "if your book is good enough", you'll find a traditional publisher, and they will pay to see the book printed. If they do not want your book,the logic goes, then there can be no good, and so it is nothing more than vanity to believe that everyone wants to read them. So, they say, do not publish. You will understand that many good things will never be accepted by traditional publishing houses, and why many writers are driven to seekAlternatives after they have previously gone wild with frustration. After setbacks and rejections, writers often begin look at the internet. They see it as an answer to their question: "How will I ever publish this book, ever?"

It need not be so.
Internet publishing could be your first choice, and not your last resort.

My argument then goes. Once you've written your book, you want to see the film.
That can not be could be a greatwhole. It could just a couple of friends and relatives. Ideally, you have to think it would be nice for me to be able to grab a dozen copies, perhaps twenty years old and out of his hand, and perhaps use them as Christmas gifts.
As well as that, you might want to give a dozen, in local bookstores, in case you want to put them in their market.
In any case, you do not have a lot at first.

Hmm, difficult if you do not know what you're doing.

A printer, you can approach and say you want aHandful of copies.
You will laugh at you.
You can start on the path of finding a traditional publisher. After years of fighting, and dozens of rejection slips, you might ask yourself how you have engaged in such nonsense ever start.

Is there an alternative?

Yes, of course there are. Try the internet, but not at the end - at the beginning.
One word of warning. Do not go for offers for the publication, which you pay to participate.
Instead, look for aCompanies like Lulu.com, as they keep your book online for you - for free - so that people can log on and check your work. Then, when the "customers are interested," Lulu will allow them (friends, relatives, patrons or customers buy) to get a copy - at a time, if necessary - as they want. If you are a half dozen of your local bookstore, be sure they can print them for you. No problem.
They are printed - on demand, as needed. There will be no workshops in yourBooks go moldy, and there will be no bills for thousands of dollars arriving on your doormat.
It's a win-win situation.

The logic, if you are following this, is that anyone can do that. Any time. In fact, once your manuscript is completed, you can get to up to Lulu and you will see your book in print form.
Simple as that.
Straight away.

Ah, but - say the young authors.
For there's something missing. And that the millions of dollars. The fame. TheFlattery.
The TV coverage. The chat show. The celebrity gossip.
If you still want you to be sure, a "traditional" publishers need to make links with the media, the PR people, the experience. If you use the "next Dan Brown ', it makes sense that you should date Dan Brown's publishing approach will want because they already have a pretty good idea, you get like the last one was made, so everyone knows how to make you into the next one.

Okay, I agree.

But look, here's myPoint again.
Why not go for Internet publishing - first?
What have you got to lose?

If your game plan is to conquer the world and famous as Mrs Beeton cookbook and the Bible, sure, you need a traditional publisher, and all that entails.
But where will you begin?
Why not start by using your manuscript up to Lulu and ordering a few copies?
In this way you get your book in print that gives you a good idea of what it will look to seelike. You can decide if you need better coverage, more blurb or whatever.
In addition, a cross section of the population will get to read your book. Okay, can most of them people you know, but still they can ideas about what are good and bad in your book and you can change notes to revise something, to take you or bring in.
(Is best if you can do corrections with Lulu, over and over again, new versions as often as you like and, of course, without a shredReprint of thousands. Change the things as much as you choose. It's easy, and it costs nothing extra.)

Uh-oh, say the skeptics.
When I put my book on the web, then "go tradtional" publishers to be insulted. They chose the opposition, they will say. We are not going well, when I see you, they will grumble.
Do not you believe it.
After all, the publication of a company. If you have a product that is sold, then come beating a path to the publishersYour door. After all, they poach, each other! Yes, if a publisher offers a contract and the book looks good, another publisher is very happy and try to buy it to turn away from them. This is the kind of sharks they are.
No, the Internet publishing is not to hinder your career with "traditional" publishers.
Better than that, if your Internet publishing is a success and sales go well, then you come to the attention of the "traditional" publishers, and they will approach you, notno doubt.

On the other hand, maybe you are not intended to be one of the most important writers of your generation. They are not rich and famous. Or rich. Or even famous.
No worries. The Internet is also kinder to you.
Internet publishing allows you to see your book printed, (small amounts) provided that will have a thrill you will, and something that they will withhold from you if your most productive years of chasing the "traditional" publishers who don waste 't giveThe time of the day.

Yes, Internet publishing is the best option.
For all.
Whether you're on the size or not.
If your book is huge, they sell millions of copies to make money and become famous, good luck to you.
But you could start on the Internet.
If you are not concerned about R & B, but want to see your book printed, so that you can read them - and Grandma and Aunt Fanny, and the man in the garage, which is interested - then InternetPublishing is also for you.

There is something for everyone.
Everybody.
